Martin Smith
Martin is Chairman of the Cybernetics Society (UK) and Vice Chairman of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) London Centre.Martin teaches robotics and is Head of the Mobile Robots Research Unit, Principal Lecturer, Head of Postgraduate Studies and Deputy Head of Department at the University of East London. Martin actually took part in Series 1 and 2 of Robot Wars with his own robot, Cruela, but never had great success. After Series 2, Martin was asked to join the judging panel for the show, where he stayed until the end of Series 7. He is the only member of the panel to compete with a robot in the series.
Noel Sharkey
Noel Sharkey is an interdisciplinary researcher. Currently a Professor in the department Computer Science, he holds a Doctorate in Experimental Psychology from the University of Exeter, U.K. (1982). He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, and a member of the British Experimental Psychology Society. He also runs exhibitions at Magna, including the famous predator and prey autonomous robots, which were widely covered by the press. Noel has written articles commenting on the future of robotics, in particular artificial intelligence, noting increasing usage of robots on real battle fields in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Matt Irvine
Matt only became a judge on Robot Wars in the later years but he has been part of the show since the beginning as one of the original team members who started it all up in the first place. He used to work for the BBC Visual Effects Department where he designed props and effects for such shows as Doctor Who.
